The world bank and the Central Statistic Agency (BPS) of Indonesia has a different benchmark to measure a number of poor.

Based on BPS, the number of people defined as poor fell by 2.21 million between March 2007 and March 2008. There were 2.13 million fewer poor people in March 2007 compared with the year before.

But, wait.... BPS use this bencmark : It will be define as poor people if they eat fewer than three meals a day or live on less than Rp. 182,636 (US$19.73) a month). Based on this benchamrk, they release a report that the number of poor people fell from 37.17 million or 15.42 percent of the population, in March 2007 to 34.96 million in March 2008.

But according the World bank bencmark, they define that a people will be defined as poor if they are living on less than US$2 a day, or US$60 a month. If we use this benchmark, one in every five Indonesians falls into “poor category”.
